Bathing and showering can be more enjoyable and relaxing with additional bathing supplies. Among the beauty accessories available today, there is one product that stands out as a practical one that exfoliates your skin and removes dead skin, leaving you soft and radiant – loofahs, also known as shower sponges or “kessa gloves” in Morocco. In traditional bathing rituals like Moroccan or Turkish Hammam, exfoliating gloves are an essential part of the ritual.
A wide range of loofahs are available for different needs, and they vary in textures, materials, and shapes. A notable difference between them is the type of material used.
Shower Poufs
Shower poufs for the shower are usually made from plastic or colorful synthetic materials, lighter, and easy to use. Material is looped onto mesh sections to form fluffy balls. Almost all of these bath poufs are outdated and detrimental, and they are usually thrown away after a short period of use and then rot on landfills for hundreds or even thousands of years. We commonly find them in our oceans and other waterways when they are thrown in the trash or leak microfibers from plastic into the drains of showers.
Sea Sponge
Natural sea sponges can be used as an exfoliating tool for your skin, although you will need to be gentle if you have skin conditions. Sea sponges are hypoallergenic and sustainable. Furthermore, they’re an environmentally-friendly option, and no chemicals are used in their harvesting or processing. Their production is a renewable natural resource.
Natural Loofah
These loofahs are a natural product derived from a vegetable of the luffa plant. Like pumpkin and squash, these gourds belong to the cucumber family. These loofahs are usually an off-white color instead of bath poufs, which are often mistaken for loofahs due to their bright colors. It is more natural-looking and rougher than poufs, making it a better exfoliant and cleaner.

Kessa Gloves
This glove is a part of the Moroccan Hammam rituals, commonly known as “kessa glove” or Moroccan hammam glove. The Kessa is used for scrubbing and is not intended to be used daily, unlike the shower poufs. It stimulates blood circulation and removes impurities and dead cells to give skin a soft and silky glow.
Choose an authentic traditional Kessa glove-like our Tamr Henna Moroccan glove, made in Morocco from high-quality textile fiber.
Exfoliating is one of the best solutions you can make to keeping a healthy glow, whether for your daily shower or weekly hammam. A great way to look beautiful, healthy, and youthful to boost your self-esteem.
Let go of any tension and stress in your body using the Loofah sponge suitable to your needs!
