Embroidery in Morocco: A Stunning Art Form

Embroidery is a highly decorative art form widely used in Morocco as part of artistic expression used to decorate various items. It is thought to have originated from ethnic tattoo patterns or henna designs. 

You will see Arab, European, and African cultures’ influence on the Moroccan style of embroidery. There are seven types of embroidery in Morocco, each of which relates to the town in which the embroidery originated: Chefchaouen, Fes, Meknes, Tétouan, Rabat, Sale, and Azemour.

Moroccan embroidery began flourishing in the 1980s as a cultural art form that could preserve Moroccan traditions and help the country economically.
